1970 was the pinnacle year for all out muscle in the automotive world. Great fuel prices, style, and the “First on Race Day” ruled the design and engineering teams at the Detroit big 3! Cars had names like The Judge, Boss, GTO, SS, 442 and Hemi Challenger to name only a few heavy hitters! Buick was still a gentleman’s choice, but GM’s Buick slipped into history behind everyone’s back with the Grand Sport (GS) Stage 1. Nicknamed the “Hemi Killer ” , the GS with the option “Stage One ” hit the streets with the highest horsepower and torque on the road ever to date! This one year, 1970, would die fast with the new emission standards chocking the life out of muscle era in 1971.
